Outpourings: Trusting God

Are you a Trusting Woman?

I found this poem today. It was written by Ruth Bell Graham many years ago.

Trusting Him when dark doubts assail us

Trusting Him when our strength is small

Trusting Him when to simply trust Him

is the hardest thing of all.

Trust Him then through tears or sunshine

All our cares upon Him cast.

Till the storms of life are over

And the trusting days are past

Powerful words from Ruth. Probably written during dark, trying times.

TRUST. That word is loaded for many women.

So much is wrong in our world.

I have completely avoided turning on the news over this past weekend due to so much coverage of the terrible shooting in Connecticut. How will the surviving children deal with such emotional turmoil? How will we trust that the children in our communities will be kept safe? Or how can we trust that we will be safe going to the movies or the mall tonight?

How do we learn to trust when people in our lives leave us or let us down?

How does Samantha learn to trust that God has someone special in mind for her to marry after a terrible breakup with a man she believed was truly “the one” for her?

How does Sarah learn to trust any man after her alcoholic father left her mother when Sarah was a child?

How can Ashley trust that she will be safe driving home today when just last month her best friend was killed in a car accident?

We cannot put our trust in anyone but Jesus Christ.

He is the only thing that will never leave you, nor forsake you.

He will never leave you behind. Nothing done on Earth can ever separate us from His love. He cares for His children.

How do we know this? The Bible tells me so.

Check out Isaiah 43: 1-5.

But now, this is what the Lord says—

    he who created you, Jacob,

    he who formed you, Israel:

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

2 When you pass through the waters,

    I will be with you;

and when you pass through the rivers,

    they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire,

    you will not be burned;

    the flames will not set you ablaze.

3 For I am the Lord your God,

    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;

I give Egypt for your ransom,

    Cush[a] and Seba in your stead.

4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight,

    and because I love you,

I will give people in exchange for you,

    nations in exchange for your life.

5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you.

I have no answer as to why senseless, horrific crimes occur.

I only know and trust the One who has all the answers. The one who works for the good of those who love Him.

And his name is Jesus Christ.
