"Why would you offer to pay for that person's coffee?"
"Why have you been spending so much time at church lately?"
"Why so honest? No one would know if you lied."
I think a person hears some rendition of one of these questions at some point during his/her faith walk.
But Jesus tells us how we should respond to any degree of persecution or questioning:
"If anyone acknowledges Me publicly here on earth, I will openly acknowledge that person before My Father in heaven. But if anyone denies Me here on earth, I will deny that person before My Father in heaven...if you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for Me, you will find it."
Matthew 10:32,33,39
I don't know about you, but this verse is tough to swallow.
Yet what is worse? To be denied by mere human beings, whose opinions do not hold a candle to God's? Or to be denied by the Risen Savior, as a result of a lack of faith and trust?
I'd rather spend an eternity with God than be exalted by man in this temporary life.
Jesus tells us that, if we give up our lives, we will find Life, itself. Our treasures on this earth are temporary; our eternal treasures are everlasting and worth infinitely more!
But it all boils down to this: Who do you say Jesus is?
