...or perhaps you have many things to complete, but the mere act of writing them down is too overwhelming--so you don't. Either way...
The question that was on my mind all weekend is how do we know when we are crossing the line into God's territory, taking too much control over our plans?
It seems that a few things can alert us:
ONE: A task becomes stressful and overwhelming, not satisfying. If all your eggs are going into one basket because you need your plan to succeed, the task becomes laden with burden and expectation.
TWO: Planning and dreaming become exhausting, not life-giving. If your mind is consumed by plans, then there is little room to stay focused on what truly matters in the present.
THREE: Big-picture focus is lost. When plans and dreaming become the end-all, then every moment is spent trying to figure them out and make them happen. Eternal focus is very easily lost in the little details.
I began asking the Lord for regained focus on Him, an eternal focus above all my own plans and dreams. I read this:
"One thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
and to seek Him in His temple."
Our identities are founded on the "one thing": seeking the Lord and dwelling in Him. Let's seek Him today, amidst our to-do's and gaze upon His beauty!
How do you know if you are crossing into God's territory?
